Retail Sales Intern

POSITION SUMMARY
The Retail Sales Internship program is designed to prepare high-potential high school student for a position as a Retail Sales Assistant. This program will train interns on all aspects of Pella Northland’s business with a specific focus on Retail Sales. This program will familiarize the successful candidate with all parts of the Retail Selling program including order acquisition and order fulfillment as well as lead management, opportunity recycling and customer follow-up.

We believe opportunities to work on meaningful projects that have real impact on the business position an Intern for success. The Retail Sales Intern will spend approximately 50% of their time in one of the Window and Door Showroom Locations (store location may vary) providing sales support. The remainder of their time will be spent inside and outside the office prospecting customers, shadowing sales appointments, canvassing, call backs, courtesy calls and rehash calls. This program requires an 18 – 24 month on-boarding (Internship) time.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Sales

  • Ride along with sales reps on calls and become familiar with the in-home sales process including PQM pricing, use of financing options, use of Price Presenting Process, and closing techniques
  • Assisting Sales Consultants and Assistants during the training period in shadowing appointments, quoting and processing orders, and all selling activities relating to customer orders, including generating leads & supporting opportunities.
  • Learn and promote the Pella World-Class Service.
  • Must successfully complete and attend all training including Sales Meetings, Call-in MDI calls, and Sales Training as they become available.
  • Learn the Pella product line and be able to demonstrate features and benefits to customers.
  • Become proficient in the use of Pella Proprietary Sales Software (PQM, ACE) as well as Microsoft Outlook, and all office equipment and processes related to Retail operations.
  • Become proficient with field measurement and installation techniques, practices and policies.

Marketing

  • Become proficient in the identifying and qualifying of prospects and setting high quality appointments.
  • Become proficient in methods and practices of self-generating leads.

Showroom Sales

  • Assist with the caring for retail customers as they walk/call in to the window store.
  • Perform all duties of an Inside Sales Associate during these hours.
  • Other duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience:
Aptitude for and desire to sell Pella Doors and Windows.

Computer Skills
Proficiency required in use of Microsoft Office Package (excel, word, power point, outlook). The ability to quickly and competently learn other computer software packages is required. Will be expected to develop proficiency in Pella proprietary software (i.e. PQM, OMS, etc.)

Communication Skills
Excellent verbal and written English language skills are required as well as good public relations, public speaking, and customer service skills. Ability to read, interpret, understand, and explain documents such as sales processes or warranty manuals. Ability to effectively present information to others, gather information from others, and respond appropriately to questions from customers, coworkers and managers. Must display excellent phone and email etiquette, and the ability to communicate in a professional manner. Must be able to present appropriate attitude for the situation when interacting with customers or co-workers.

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, financial reports, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to management and customers. Multi-lingual communication skills are a plus.

Professional Skills
Must be a team player and exhibit a strong desire to learn and promote self-growth. Must be pro-active, self-disciplined, self-motivated, and have a demonstrated ability to follow projects through to completion. Attention to detail is required. Must be articulate, able to give clear instructions, demonstrate organizational skills, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Must be able to develop trust, respect, and confidence of customers, coworkers and managers. Must present in a clean and neat physical appearance. Must be able to resolve conflict in the best interests of the business and our customers.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to compile and decipher information in spreadsheet format. Candidate must be able to do simple math involved in pricing and field measurements.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
